When a site visitor request a web page that contains PHP code, the page is first passed from the website hosting server to the PHP Interpretation Engine which runs the PHP code. Depending on the code, some action may be taken on the server and the page content modified based on the code. The new page is returned to the server and forwarded to the site visitor - all in the blink of an eye of course!
